Job Description:

About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Serving as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, covering road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Managing company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
• Building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
• Investigating incidents and accidents with trained colleagues, escalating severity appropriately, and liaising with external emergency services and media when necessary.

About you

• At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental Risk qualifications
• Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
