About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Acting as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, covering all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Owning company health and safety policies, training programs, and audit regimes, ensuring adequate and effective arrangements are in place and managed.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in collaboration with the Head of Safety & Risk to promote positive safety behaviors and culture.
• Maintaining positive relationships and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance, such as the HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, and Trade Bodies.
• Ensuring all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation as necessary, and liaising with external stakeholders like emergency services and media.

About you

• Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems, including auditing qualifications
• Environmental Risk qualifications
• Extensive Accident Investigation experience, including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
