Job Description:

About the role
  • Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Serving as the Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture, covering all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
  • Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
  • Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in collaboration with the Head of Safety & Risk to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
  • Building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
  • Ensuring all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation based on severity, and liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media.

About you
  • At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
  • Auditing qualifications and experience
  • Environmental risk qualifications
  • Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
  • A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
