About the role
  • Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Serving as the Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
  • Owning the company's health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed.
  • Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in health and safety compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
  • Ensuring incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained colleagues, with appropriate escalation and external liaison as needed.

About you
  • At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems.
  • Auditing qualifications and experience.
  • Environmental Risk qualifications.
  • Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels.
  • A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided).
