Safety Engineering Technical Integration Lead - Submarines

An exciting opportunity currently exist for an Engineer to join our Engineering Safety and Systems Department based within the Services Delivery Business Unit (DBU) in Submarines Derby.

This key role is required to support the production of the Dreadnought Class nuclear safety case and integrate technical work packages into the delivery of the Dreadnought safety case. The role forms part of the Submarine Programmes scope of nuclear safety case responsibility for Naval Reactor Plants. The role will be to support the Dreadnought Safety Case team delivering the documents within their division of responsibility, and to be the prime engineering and technical programme contact between the Customer, Sites, Services Project Function and interfacing DBUs, responsible for advising the technical content and delivery of agreed work packages for In-Service or Dreadnought Class Submarines. As a Safety Engineering Technical Integration Lead you will be expected to represent the company at key safety meetings within the Submarines Enterprise

The role is within the Dreadnought Safety Team, which is part of the In-Service Safety Department, supporting the Services Delivery Business Unit.

You will be contributing to enable the next generation of nuclear powered submarines enter service, a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will be producing safety case outputs to support the Dreadnought Class Submarines through the commissioning and transition into service programmes, as well as integrating wider areas of the business and external enterprise partners to support the delivery of the safety case. The role and the wider team are uniquely placed to work closely with the build and commissioning licencee and the MoD to enable commissioning and entry into service.

What you will be doing

To be successful in this role you will need to:
  • Be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant (engineering/science/maths) discipline.
  • Be of Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartered status.
  • Work under minimal supervision within the customer environment.
  • Possess good communication and customer management / relationship skills.
  • A sound knowledge of submarines NSRP systems/engineering and a high-level understanding of the nuclear safety case, along with the tools and method used to undertaken nuclear safety case assessments is also beneficial for this role.
