What will you do on the programme?

You’ll learn how to identify, analyse and mitigate risks across complex engineering environments. From nuclear safety cases and hazard analysis to regulatory compliance and safety assurance, your work will underpin the integrity of our most vital programmes.
How is the programme structured?
This is a two-year programme designed to give you breadth, depth and a strong foundation in safety engineering.
You’ll rotate through a series of placements, each one offering insight into different areas of the discipline. These placements will take place across various teams and projects, helping you understand the full lifecycle of safety-critical systems.
As you progress, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of safety engineering principles and begin to shape your direction. Whether you\'re collaborating with safety case authors or learning from human factors specialists, you’ll be building the knowledge, confidence and experience to become a trusted safety professional in a vital area of national defence.

Places on our Safety Engineering programme for Autumn 2026 are available in Rosyth, Scotland.
At the heart of our Marine business is our 320-acre Rosyth facility — home to one of the UK’s largest and most advanced waterside manufacturing and repair sites. As a graduate here, you’ll be part of a team supporting the Ministry of Defence in dismantling nuclear-powered submarines. This involves carefully removing reactor systems and managing materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.Your work will help reduce environmental impact, enhance safety and security, and support the long-term sustainability of the submarine enterprise.
