About the role

CDS DS are looking for a Safety Engineer to join our Safety and Environmental Team. As part of the team, you will produce and deliver safety artefacts to support our defence and industry contracts.

As a Safety Engineer, you will be passionate about safety and be able to provide independent and assured safety advice. You will support the delivery of safety artefacts to schedule, quality and budget, whilst meeting client expectations. Your knowledge and experience in safety and risk management techniques, processes, and concepts will enable you to support our clients in meeting their safety requirements.

You will be based in Cheltenham with hybrid working, but you may be required to visit or work on client sites, as required.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic team member, ideally with a UK Defence background in engineering or system safety; alternatively, experience of professional systems safety or risk management gained within the other sectors is acceptable will be considered.
  • You will be a safety practitioner, who is familiar with the application of UK MOD safety regulation, policy and standards such as: Defence Safety Authority (DSA) Regulations, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) Project Orientated Safety Management System (POSMS) and Def Stan 00-056
  • You will have practical experience in the development and management of hazard logs, supporting HAZID and hazard review meetings, and authoring safety assessment/ safety case reports, including providing justification of the ALARP status of the product. Ideally, you will be knowledgeable in statutory safety legislation and how to attain and manage legislation compliance.
  • As much of our work is directly customer-focused, good communication skills and the ability to present professionally both verbally and in writing are essential for this role. We also welcome your analytical thinking skills and your ability to work well in a team.
  • You will be self-motivated with ideally a recognised technical qualification, preferably in Engineering.
  • You must be able to satisfy UK Ministry of Defence security requirements and be able to obtain and hold Security Clearance (SC) and be willing to hold Developed Vetting (DV) if required.
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
