About the Opportunity

Jacobs is hiring Safety Case Engineers at all levels—from entry to principal—to join our Safety Case team within our decommissioning and radioactive waste management division. Roles are based in Harwell, London, Warrington, Scrabster, Westlakes, and other locations.

Our decommissioning and radioactive waste management sector offers a mix of consultancy and engineering projects, including EPC projects for civil nuclear and defense industries in the UK and internationally, including the Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe, and Japan.

The Safety Case Team focuses on providing safety analysis and support for waste management and decommissioning projects, assisting licensees, future licensees, waste organizations, and regulators.

This role also involves supporting clients across the Nuclear Lifecycle, including reactor designers, vendors, site operators, industry bodies, regulators, and research institutions.

You will work with a diverse team, develop your skills, and have opportunities to lead technical teams and manage project delivery. Travel to various sites may be required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Safety Case Engineer, you will implement Safety Case Procedures, maintain technical standards, and support nuclear clients through the full lifecycle, including:

  • Participating in hazard identification studies (e.g., HAZIDs, HAZOPs, SWIFTs)
  • Supporting qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (e.g., FTAs, FMEA, ETA, QRA)
  • Preparing safety case documentation and reports
  • Developing safety case strategy reports
  • Creating technical reports
Qualifications
  • Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate technical information
  • Experience in preparing technical reports
  • Self-motivated with a professional leadership approach and technical expertise
  • Good engineering judgment with awareness of knowledge limitations

Desirable skills include:

  • Understanding of Safety Assessment Principles and their application to safety case preparation
  • Experience in developing safety case documentation within the nuclear or other highly regulated industries
  • Stakeholder engagement skills
  • For senior roles, successful delivery of safety cases on complex projects and mentoring junior staff
