Job summary

MPI Limited is seeking an experienced safety professional for a Maternity Cover, home-based with travel to Hatfield and other UK sites. You will lead safety assurance across product development, partnering with engineering, project delivery, and safety teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Safety Assurance role within a safety-critical industry such as rail or signalling.
• Proven ability to produce and oversee safety documentation within structured safety frameworks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety assurance activities across the client's product portfolio, applying signalling safety processes and standards.
• Drive safety assurance across development programmes and product modifications.
• Ensure compliance with the Signalling Safety Instruction (SSI) and governance requirements.
• Produce and deliver safety documentation in line with project and product delivery plans.
• Collaborate with Product Development Project Managers to monitor progress and raise delivery concerns.
• Support project teams with safety evidence to enable successful commissioning.
• Drive continuous improvement within the Product Safety Assurance function.
• Manage product-related 8D problem-solving reports and support effective resolutions.
• Work with Safety Assurance Managers, Engineers, and Product Development teams across multiple signalling product categories.

Your Future role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced safety professional who thrives on collaboration, leadership, and making a tangible impact within a safety-critical environment. You'll work at the heart of product development, partnering with engineering, project delivery, and safety teams to ensure our products are delivered safely, compliantly, and efficiently. This is a home-based role with travel to the clients offices in Hatfield and other UK sites as agreed with the Regional Centre Safety Manager. You'll work closely with the Product Development Team while maintaining independent reporting into the Safety organisation

We’ll look to you for:

• As the Tier 1 Safety Assurance Manager, you will lead safety assurance activities across the clients product portfolio, ensuring the consistent application of signalling safety processes and standards.
• Leading safety assurance activities across product development programmes and product modifications.
• Ensuring compliance with the Signalling Safety Instruction (SSI) and associated safety governance requirements.
• Producing and delivering safety documentation in line with project and product delivery plans.
• Working closely with Product Development Project Managers to monitor progress, identify risks, and elevate delivery concerns where required.
• Supporting project teams with the timely provision of safety evidence to support successful project commissioning.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the Product Safety Assurance function.
• Managing product-related 8D problem-solving reports and supporting effective resolution of issues.
• Collaborating with Safety Assurance Managers, Engineers, and Product Development teams across multiple signalling product categories.
• Providing leadership, coaching, and support to members of the Product Safety Assurance team.

All about you:

• Experience working within a Safety Assurance role in a safety- critical industry, preferably rail or signalling.
• A strong understanding of safety standards, governance, and assurance processes.
• Experience producing and overseeing safety assurance documentation within structured safety frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A track record of influencing and collaborating across cross- functional teams.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and delivery deadlines.
