Your Role as the Safety and Risk Manager:

As the Safety and Risk Manager at HMP Bronzefield, you will be responsible for creating a safe environment for staff and residents in Europe's largest female prison. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will serve as the key advisor on health and safety, ensuring compliance with legal standards and fostering a culture of safety.

Your duties include overseeing accident reporting, conducting investigations, analyzing data for trends, managing audits, and implementing risk mitigation strategies. You will provide feedback across all levels, promoting a proactive approach to risk management.

This role requires resilience, excellent organization, and the ability to handle complex challenges in a fast-paced setting. You will work with a modern, supportive team committed to inclusivity, making a tangible impact through your role.

What You’ll Bring:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Experience in accident reporting, investigation, and resolution.
  • Strong data analysis skills for trend identification and action.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience managing audits and creating action plans under pressure.
  • Proactive, consultative approach to health and safety.
  • Confidence in delivering feedback and sharing best practices.
  • Resilience in challenging situations and supporting mental health strategies.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.

Desirable but not required:

  • Chartered membership of IIRSM and IOSH.
  • Degree or Level 5 NVQ in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Training in Risk Management, Business Continuity, ISO audits.
  • Knowledge of fire risk management standards and assessments.
  • Additional certifications like Food Safety Level 3, Environmental Management, etc.
  • Experience in justice, custodial, or community environments.

Note: Only candidates with or near completion of a NEBOSH General Certificate will be considered.
