Job description

Overview

Our Safety department requires a skilled and motivated Safety and Audit Manager to join our friendly team in Peterborough!

In this role, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the annual Safety Management System, supporting and advising on health, safety, and wellbeing activities to maintain high standards and foster continuous improvement, enhancing our company culture.

You will provide guidance on health, safety, environmental, and quality assurance matters, increasing awareness across the business while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will escalate significant issues to management and ensure swift action and effective communication throughout the company.

You will also conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001, and other relevant legislation. This includes monitoring non-conformances, reporting to the Executive Team, and supporting teams in closing out action plans on a monthly basis.

The salary range is £47,000-£52,000, depending on experience.

Regular travel across the UK is required, and a clean driving license is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate and develop audits as part of the Internal Programme within the Safety Team
  • Review ISO standards (45001, 9001, 14001) to ensure our Integrated Management System complies with requirements and meets business and customer needs
  • Build strong partnerships with client groups, promoting best practices and supporting management of health, safety, quality, and environmental initiatives
  • Ensure managers understand and fulfill their obligations regarding health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Design and implement continuous improvement programs for relevant personnel
  • Lead external audits of health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems, providing reports and tracking non-compliances to resolution
  • Maintain reporting systems in cooperation with sustainability and ESG responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve customer and public complaints related to health, safety, environment, and quality issues
  • Prepare periodic reports for the Board and internal safety groups
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NCRQ (or equivalent)
  • Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 45001 or 14001 (or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an audit role, preferably within the UK Railway industry
