Join ICL Group as our new Safety Advisor and play a vital role in safeguarding the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone on site.


Based at Boulby Mine with responsibilities across both Boulby and Teesdock, this is a hands-on opportunity to make a real difference in a high-hazard industrial environment. You’ll support compliance with health and safety legislation, drive proactive safety initiatives, manage emergency preparedness, and contribute to a strong safety culture across our operations. The Role:

  • To assist in ensuring Boulby’s compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Management of the GoArc software safety system regarding updates and changes.
  • Systems Auditor for ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards
  • Attendance and participation at regular safety meetings
  • To participate in the development of the risk assessments process
  • To drive the proactive elements of the safety system
  • To assist in accident/incident investigation (which includes Statement taking, Report writing, document gathering, RCA and where necessary Representing the Company in court)
  • Offer advice and guidance on any issues to the workforce at both Boulby and Teesdock
  • Management of emergency preparedness in all aspects and site rescue teams.
  • Accurately measure and sample levels of exposure, often through precise use of specialist equipment
  • Be part of the team that owns the Major and fatal hazard process relating to Industrial Hygiene, and emergency preparedness.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Effective communication skills are essential
  • Good organisational skills advantageous
  • Attention to detail and completer/finisher
  • Good understanding of Boulby and Teesdock site operations would be advantageous
  • Good understanding of all matters relating to Health and Safety
  • An understanding of The Mining Regulations 2014 would be a distinct advantage as would an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Knowledge of COSHH, Noise, HAV’s, Asbestos, Legionella and Fire Regulations
  • Knowledge and experience in an Industrial Hygiene, along with monitoring plans in this area.

Required Qualifications/Certificates/Experience:

  • Knowledge and completion of risk assessments/risk analysis
  • Professional Safety Qualification (NEBOSH General Certificate, willing to undertake or equivalent qualification)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Projects
  • Plan to be a member of IOSH, if not so already and progress through membership grades.
  • High Hazard industrial experience
  • Emergency preparedness/rescue team management
  • Fire safety management and control
