Neway International are seeking a Safeguarding Lawyer to join our client based with Thurrock Council.

Start Date: 01 December 2025
Hours: 35 per week
Pay Rates: PAYE: £42.74 per hour Limited/Umbrella: £55.00 per hour

Job Description

Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced Safeguarding Lawyer to join the Legal Services team within Corporate Services > Governance > Legal. This temporary role will provide cover for a secondment and ensure the effective delivery of safeguarding and social care legal matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and conduct cases within the legal team relating to social care matters.
  • Represent the Council before the High Court, County Court, Magistrates Court, Inquiries, and Tribunals, including advocacy and instructing counsel where appropriate.
  • Provide advice and manage both contentious and non-contentious legal matters referred by the Principal Lawyer or Team Leader.
  • Assist with the instruction and supervision of other legal staff as required.
  • Keep the Principal Lawyer and Team Leader fully informed on case progress and support monitoring arrangements.
  • Act in the name of the Director of Law and Governance, maintaining recognised standards of professional conduct.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with Thurrock Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and Diversity Strategy.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety legislation and council policies.
  • Contribute to service plan objectives and participate in performance reviews and development activities.
  • Undertake other duties consistent with the role as directed by senior management.
Requirements
