Whitby Coast and Moors Primary Care Network is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Safeguarding Coordinator. Our PCN is establishing a new multidisciplinary holistic care team to support patients with complex needs.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of a team focused on health, wellbeing, and independence. The ideal candidate should have a clear professional identity and be comfortable working with some uncertainty as new services are tested and refined.

Main duties of the job

The Safeguarding Coordinator role is a new position within Whitby Coast and Moors PCN. The post holder will collaborate closely with all PCN member practices to coordinate safeguarding efforts and establish a safeguarding hub.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with GPs to prepare safeguarding reports, ensuring relevant consent is obtained.
  • Update and attend child protection plan meetings as needed (healthcare professionals only).
  • Assist in preparing reports for MARACs and attend meetings if appropriate (healthcare professionals only).
  • Support and advise clinicians on safeguarding referrals.
  • Communicate with social services regarding patients when appropriate.
  • Develop a safeguarding hub accessible to all clinicians across the PCN, including resources, contact info, and training links.
  • Work with lead safeguarding GPs to ensure practice safeguarding policies are current and effective.
  • Ensure staff are up-to-date with safeguarding training.
  • Liaise with patients and families regarding safeguarding issues, such as booking health appointments for children on protection plans.
  • Maintain accurate registers and coding for children on child protection plans and Looked After Children.
  • Attend safeguarding training courses organized by the Integrated Care Board.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Possess good IT skills, preferably with experience in EMIS and System One.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain Level 3 safeguarding qualifications for healthcare professionals or Level 2 for non-healthcare professionals upon appointment.
  • Have prior safeguarding and healthcare experience.
