Key Stages: KS1 – KS4

At Compass School, we are a specialist Alternative Provision dedicated to supporting pupils who have been permanently excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or are unable to access mainstream education. Our pupils often face significant social, emotional, and mental health challenges. That's why we place positive relationships, trauma-informed practice, and a relational approach at the heart of our work. We are committed to helping every young person feel safe, valued, and equipped for a successful future.

Purpose of the Role

As our Safeguarding, Attendance and Guidance Coordinator, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and educational engagement of our pupils. You will help build a robust, coordinated safeguarding culture across the school while also driving improved attendance and leading high-quality Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) provision.

You will also play a key role in supporting families, leading on multi-agency working, and helping pupils prepare for positive next steps in education, training or employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and deputise for the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) as required.
  • Lead and manage the use of CPOMS and reporting systems to accurately monitor and share safeguarding concerns.
  • Provide and organise safeguarding training for staff and visitors.
  • Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, advocating for pupils' complex safeguarding needs and coordinating interventions.
  • Support the development and monitoring of school safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of systems and strategies to improve pupil attendance and engagement.
  • Monitor attendance data and trends, coordinating interventions and supporting pupils and families to address barriers to regular attendance.
  • Prepare reports for the Extended Leadership Team (EXLT) and the Management Committee.
  • Lead and manage CEIAG provision across the school, delivering high-quality advice and guidance to pupils and their families
  • Support pupils in securing suitable opportunities in education, training, and employment
  • Coordinate work experience provision, supporting staff and ensuring effective preparation and accreditation.
  • Develop programmes to raise pupil aspirations and promote future success.
  • Line manage a team of Family Engagement Workers, providing leadership and oversight.
  • Lead and monitor strategies and outcomes from multi-agency meetings and reintegration programmes
  • Work in partnership with a range of external services to ensure integrated, holistic responses to pupil needs
  • Support and coach staff attending meetings with parents, and liaise directly with parents to foster strong relationships and parental engagement
  • Play a visible leadership role around the school, providing proactive behaviour and pastoral support.
  • Support individual pupils using restorative practices to resolve issues and rebuild relationships
  • Contribute to the wider development of school systems and policies relating to safeguarding, attendance, behaviour, and guidance.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced safeguarding and pastoral leader who:

  • Has experience of safeguarding practice and multi-agency working in an education or children's services setting.
  • Demonstrates an excellent understanding of trauma-informed and relational approaches.
  • Has experience of improving attendance outcomes and delivering high-quality CEIAG provision.
  • Has strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Is a confident communicator who can build effective relationships with pupils, families, staff, and external partners.
  • Is highly organised, resilient, and committed to improving the life chances of vulnerable young people.
