Job description

The S&T Product Development Chemist will be an integral part of the Architectural Coatings Research and Development team. This role involves formulating, preparing, and testing new and existing products, evaluating new raw materials, maintaining existing products, and collaborating with manufacturing to resolve issues.

As a Product Development Chemist, you will work hands-on in developing world-class coating technologies. The primary responsibilities include formulating both new and existing products within the latex paint team.

You will report to the Supervisor S&T Product Development and work onsite at the Harmar R&D Center, Cheswick, PA.

Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, and policies to help eliminate health hazards and prevent work stoppages and time loss due to accidents.
  2. Drive projects against set milestones.
  3. Coordinate activities including formulation, processing, testing, and application.
  4. Perform and document standardized, routine chemical and physical tests of finished goods, comparing results with established standards and customer requirements.
  5. Work closely with product management, manufacturing, and procurement to develop new products and maintain existing lines through formulation and optimization.
  6. Support manufacturing to ensure quality products are delivered to customers.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related technical field, with at least 3 years of laboratory experience.
  2. Experience in architectural, waterborne coatings, or related coatings technology and manufacturing.
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills.
