Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)

Job description

Are you a passionate RVN looking for something more than the average clinical role? Do you want to be part of shaping a brand-new, independent veterinary hospital from the ground up – a place where your input truly matters, and your professional growth is genuinely supported?

Rugby Vets is opening a brand-new, independent veterinary hospital in Rugby, and we’re looking for experienced, forward-thinking Registered Veterinary Nurses who are ready to take the next step in their careers. This initial phase of recruitment is focused on building a core clinical team. However, if your ambition lies in clinical leadership, team development, or operational management, we offer exciting future opportunities for those with the right skills, mindset, and drive, including Head Nurse, Practice Manager and Lead Nurse roles.

This is a rare opportunity to join from the very beginning and help shape the culture, set the standards, and build something truly exceptional alongside a supportive leadership team that genuinely values and empowers its nursing team.

Why This Role is Different

We’re creating a hospital that works for our people, not just the business. From your working environment to your rota, your wellbeing is a top priority. You’ll have your say on protocols, patient care pathways, and the day-to-day running of the clinic. We want you to thrive in your role and develop your skills without being bogged down with reception duties or unrealistic demands. And because we believe our success is driven by the contributions of the whole team, you’ll benefit from a profit share scheme that recognises your impact from day one.

Our hospital is being designed to achieve both clinical excellence and team well-being, with spacious prep and theatre areas, a dedicated imaging suite, and comfortable staff areas. We’ll be equipped to deliver the highest standards of patient care, diagnostics and surgery from the moment we open our doors, with everything you’d expect from a referral-level facility, including a CT scanner, DR X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, an in-house Idexx lab, and more. You’ll work alongside experienced vets and fellow RVNs who are committed to delivering the very best care to patients and clients alike.

We’re committed to building this the right way, with a dedicated out-of-hours and night team in place from the outset to deliver 24/7 care. This ensures seamless patient handovers and consistently high standards of service for our clients. Crucially, it also means no out-of-hours responsibilities for our day RVNs, so you can focus on providing exceptional care during your shift and truly switch off afterwards.

A Fantastic Client Base Awaits

Our hospital will be the only practice in the area offering 24/7 care, including overnight hospitalisation and advanced diagnostic services such as CT. Conveniently located in the heart of Rugby, we anticipate a rapid growth in our client base, both within the local community and beyond. We will also offer out-of-hours services for other practices in the area.

Our location and facilities put you at the centre of a thriving, fast-growing practice, with a diverse caseload. No two days will be the same, and from the very beginning, you’ll be part of something with real momentum.

What We're Looking For

We’re currently looking for experienced RVNs to join our day team and help shape our hospital in its foundational phase. We truly value the expertise and impact of a skilled nursing team, and we want you to thrive in your role. As the practice grows, so will your career. With structured support and clear pathways for genuine progression, you could advance into leadership roles like Head Nurse, Clinical Lead Nurse, or even Practice Manager right here with us, depending on where your ambitions lie.

As we grow our day team, we’re committed to offering flexibility to help you find a work schedule that fits your life. Whether you're looking for full-time, part-time, or something a little different, we’re happy to chat about the options available, all with your wellbeing and long-term career growth in mind.

About You

  • An RVN with a strong foundation in general nursing, who is registered with the RCVS
  • Someone who enjoys using all aspects of their nursing skills, with a genuine commitment to clinical excellence
  • Excited about ongoing development in a practice where full support will be given.Bonus points if you are a certificate holder, or are currently working towards one
  • Passionate about upholding high clinical standards, collaborating with a like-minded team, and delivering outstanding patient and client care
  • Motivated by the opportunity to be part of something new, bringing your ideas, initiative, and leadership to help shape the future of an exceptional, independent hospital

What We’re Offering:

  • A salary of £30,000 – £35,000, depending on experience and additional qualifications
  • Profit share scheme from day one, because everyone contributes to our success
  • Funded CPD, including support for certificates
  • RCVS, VDS and BVNA fees paid
  • No out-of-hours or night shifts for day RVNs
  • Flexible rota options, including full-time and part-time, with input on your rota
  • Five weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays, with an extra day off for your birthday
  • No reception duties, and proper time to care for your patients
  • Wellbeing prioritised, including dedicated lunch breaks and a staff rest area
  • Clear development pathways, with opportunities to progress into leadership or advanced clinical roles as the practice grows
  • A voice in how the practice operates – from protocols to patient care, your opinion counts
