Elwood Technologies in London is seeking a Mid Level Software Engineer to design, build, and optimise a high-performance EMS platform across multiple regions. You will work in a cross-functional team on low-latency backend systems.

The role requires strong Rust expertise, experience with distributed systems, and collaboration with product, QA and infrastructure to deliver reliable deployments at scale. Hybrid work and a competitive package are offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience, focusing on low-latency systems.
• Proven Rust development experience and ability to defend design choices.
• Knowledge of distributed, multi-region deployments and event-driven patterns.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and observability tooling.

Responsibilities

• Platform Development: Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput systems for a multi-region EMS platform, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Latency Optimisation: Analyse and optimise critical paths in the system to reduce latency and improve performance.
• Distributed Systems: Maintain distributed, fault-tolerant systems with high availability across multiple regions, ensuring data consistency.
• Monitoring & Observability: Implement real-time monitoring, telemetry and alerting systems for proactive issue detection and resolution.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product, QA and infrastructure teams to align technical solutions with business requirements and ensure seamless deployments.
• Code reviews: Review teammates' code with rigour and help raise the team's collective standard.
• AI-Assisted Development: Use AI coding assistants heavily and critically - catching what they get wrong is part of the job.
