Job description

Job title: Russian or Ukranian Speaking PMLD Tutor

Location: Barking and Dagenham

Basis: 2 hours per day Monday-friday (must be everyy day Monday to friday) during term time

Start: September 2025

I am currently looking for a very special role. I am looking for an experienced PMLD Tutor who speaks either Russian or Ukranian, to work with a student with very complex needs within their home, 2 hours a day Monday-Friday starting September. The individual would need to have experience teaching students with complex and profound needs and be able to make use of the student's skills to help them build their learning and abilities. This is not just a support role, but one where you will be actively teaching and working on development with this student.

Student is a year 8 with very complex needs PMLD

The tutor must have the skills to deal with the following needs of the student:

  • Premature birth (32 wks)
  • Visual impairment
  • Significant physical disability- unable to walk or sit independently without support/specialised equipment. No core strength. Can move his limbs.
  • Has some receptive language skills at one word level
  • Can verbalise a few individual words
  • No independent self-care skills
  • Doubly incontinent- mum carries him to the toilet- hoist would be a necessity in school
  • Poor co-ordination- very limited gross motor skills. Poor fine motor skills due to his stiffened hands
  • Good eater but unable to feed himself
  • Mixed co-operation lvels depending on mood
  • Requires daily massages (from parent)
  • Sensory play would be required
  • Augmentative communication would be required
  • Does not like to be left alone- likes attention and without this becomes distressed

You will be supported by the student's parent who will be in the home at all times also.

The ideal tutor will have experience teaching students with complex PMLD needs, engaging them in sensory play and providing lessons for this student that will make use of their skills.

This role is suitable for experienced Teachers and SEN Tutors.
