Job summary

National Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Rural Surveyor to deliver professional services for a diverse portfolio of land and property across Hampshire, the South Downs and the Isle of Wight. You will work within the Estate Management team to manage rural assets, balancing environmental, social and financial objectives while maintaining professional independence.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Rural Surveyor to deliver professional services for a diverse portfolio of land and property across Hampshire, South Downs & Isle of Wight. You’ll work within a friendly and helpful Estate Management team to deliver effective management of rural assets, supporting both operational and strategic objectives. Working collaboratively while maintaining professional independence, you’ll apply your technical expertise to provide practical, sustainable solutions that balance environmental, social, and financial considerations. What it's like to work here

The management of our tenancies and assets, and the relationships we build with our tenants, are fundamental to our £40m+ annual rental income and the delivery of our strategic goals work.

This role covers estates across Hampshire, South Downs and Isle of Wight, and your contractual place of work will be at our Hub Office in Micheldever (nr. Winchester). Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits, hot desking and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week. Our team have a focus on high performance across our work, accompanied with a welcoming and friendly team focused environment.

What you'll be doing

If you enjoy varied and rewarding work, this role offers the chance to make a real impact across a diverse estate. No two days are the same - you’ll support day-to-day estate management while helping shape the future of our land and assets.

Your work will include areas such as commercial lettings, management of agricultural tenancies and agri-environment schemes on in hand land, woodland creation and management, access and boundary matters, work with restrictive covenants, managing commons and working with commoners, easements and wayleaves and occasional acquisitions and disposals. You’ll champion best practice within a structured governance framework, provide clear advice, and build strong relationships with tenants, helping us care for and conserve our land for the future.

Who we're looking for

• A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
• Knowledge of land use, agriculture, asset management, land management, environmental issues, conservation and sustainable development and understand how that translates to National Trust Strategy
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including influencing and negotiation
• The ability to analyse, interpret and resolve rural surveying problems using technical knowledge to implement workable solutions
• Strong demonstrable consulting skills of listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high-quality service
• The ability to work as part of a team to achieve the best results, demonstrating best practice and sharing ideas and thinking
• Demonstrates practical experience collaborating within structured project teams to achieve shared objectives.
• Understanding team dynamics, contributing effectively to collective goals, and adapting to different roles and responsibilities within a project environment.
