Rural Estates Manager

As the Rural Estates Manager, you’ll lead a professional team managing the Council’s rural estate, delivering financial, environmental, and operational performance in line with the authority’s strategic aims. The estate comprises 167 tenants, a £245m book value, £6m+ in annual revenue, and is a key lever for delivering the Council’s climate, biodiversity, and financial goals.
This is a rare and senior interim assignment, ideally suited to someone who brings deep expertise in rural estate management, public sector leadership, and strategic asset development.

Your role as Rural Estates Manager role:
  • Provide leadership to a team of 4 Chartered Surveyors and a Farms Officer, ensuring delivery of a best-practice, customer-focused estate management service
  • Oversee daily operations including landlord/tenant matters, repairs, capital build programmes, renewable energy, and biodiversity projects
  • Lead on the development, implementation, and review of the Rural Asset Management Strategy and Farm Business Plans
  • Lead complex negotiations for disposals, acquisitions, and leases to achieve best consideration and contribute to capital targets
  • Maintain oversight of the estate’s property data, GIS mapping, and records to ensure accuracy and compliance

You previous experience as a Rural Estates Manager:
  • MRICS (Rural Pathway)
  • Degree in Rural Land Management or similar
  • Extensive experience managing large agricultural estates, including landlord/tenant work, valuations, and capital projects
  • Proven leadership of teams delivering estate management services in complex environments
  • Track record of delivering financial targets, strategic plans, and development programmes
  • Strong understanding of climate and biodiversity policy within rural estate contexts
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills – capable of advising senior officers and Members
