The Welsh Rugby Union Group (WRU) are proud to offer a fantastic opportunity for young people to join our apprenticeship programme.

The WRU Rugby Development apprenticeship programme provides young people with recognised qualifications, new skills, knowledge and a wealth of experience working as a Rugby Development Apprentice.

During the 12-month programme, you will work towards a Level 4 Foundation in Sport Management and Development, this is supported by Cardiff Metropolitan University where WRU Apprentices will be enrolled as a student and receive the learning benefits the University can offer, including potential progression onto Degree courses once the apprenticeship is successfully completed and all assignments have been assessed and passed.

You will also be required to complete a range of rugby and sport related technical qualifications.

The apprenticeship will offer exceptional training and experiences to develop a new generation of inspirational sport professionals.

We are looking for individuals to join this programme who have an interest in encouraging others in their communities to engage in sport.

Selection Days: 10th September & 11th September 2025 at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cyncoed Road, Cardiff, CF23 6XD (both days are mandatory)

Salary: £11,778 per annum

Closing Date: 29 August 2025

Location: The National Centre of Excellence, Principality Stadium, throughout Wales to include the Scarlets, Cardiff, Dragons, RGC & Ospreys regions.

Hours of work: 30 per week. You will be requirement to work flexibly, evenings and weekends as necessary, Monday to Sunday.

Responsible to: Rugby Development Apprenticeship Manager

Contractual Status: Fixed term, 12-month apprenticeship contract

Subject to 6 -month probationary period

The Person

  • 18 years old on/or before 1st January 2026
  • Not in further education
  • Demonstrate an enthusiasm for working in the Community game at all levels.
  • Applicants do not require any formal qualifications (A - C) GCSE Maths & English or equivalent is desirable.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and experience of volunteering in the community.

WRU Requirements

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable.
