The University of Liverpool seeks an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Assistant Coach for the 2025/26 Rugby Union season. The University of Liverpool is highly committed to sport. One of our key targets is to raise the performance of our student teams competing in the British Universities and Colleges Sports league. The University of Liverpool Rugby Union Club is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Assistant Coach to join our coaching team for the 2025/26 season. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of our squads specifically focusing on the first and second, working closely with the Head Coach and club leadership to prepare for weekly BUCS league fixtures. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious coach to work within a high-performing student sport environment, supporting the progression of talented university players.

Requirements
• Plan and deliver engaging, technically sound training sessions for the first and second team.
• Coach a broad range of technical and tactical aspects of the game, including attack, defence, breakdown skills, and game management
• Attend and coach all BUCS match fixtures on Wednesday afternoons.
• Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other staff to develop overall team strategy and cohesion.
• Provide feedback, analysis, and mentoring to student-athletes.
• Contribute to team selection and post-match reviews.
• Ensure all training and matchday activity meets RFU safety standards and supports player welfare.
Playing Level of Teams
• 2nd Team: BUCS Northern 3A Hours of work 22 Weeks to be worked September - April Team training: Monday 7-8.30pm and Fridays 4-5.30pm Plus Wednesday match support as required by Head Coach. Travel to away matches is paid at a standard hourly payment of £12.10. Hourly rate Depending on experience and qualifications.

• Experience coaching in a structured team environment. (E)
• Strong leadership and communication skills. (E)
• Ability to plan and deliver structured, progressive coaching sessions. (E)
• Commitment to working within a university sport environment. (E)
• Previous experience within university, BUCS, or age-grade rugby. (D) • Understanding of the BUCS competition framework. (D) • First Aid qualification (or willingness to complete training). (D)
