Job purpose:

The Domestic Abuse Education Lead is responsible for overseeing the delivery of Operation Encompass in Birmingham, working with police and support teams to ensure timely domestic abuse alerts to education and providing support to education colleagues to help them support children affected by domestic abuse. This role is a 12-month maternity backfill. The candidate must have experience in domestic abuse and be confident in advising on risk and safety planning.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and delivering domestic abuse advice, support, and training for education settings, including Operation Encompass and MARAC.
  2. Supporting children experiencing domestic abuse within education settings.
  3. Enhancing safeguarding processes for children out of sight or in temporary accommodation or refuge.
  4. Managing domestic abuse programs for families and evaluating their effectiveness.
  5. Providing operational support to Birmingham City Council’s Education Safeguarding Team.
  6. Supporting education settings with Operation Encompass, MARAC, and related systems.
  7. Producing data and reports on domestic abuse and Operation Encompass trends.
  8. Analyzing data to evaluate impact and take-up of services.
  9. Delivering briefings, training, and webinars on domestic abuse themes.
  10. Collaborating with police and education teams to develop support programs and contribute to MARAC.
  11. Representing education in domestic abuse steering groups and ensuring action points are addressed.
  12. Working with teams to improve safeguarding responses for children affected by domestic abuse.
  13. Producing communications for schools and settings about domestic abuse initiatives.
  14. Supporting schools involved in Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.
  15. Coordinating responses to awareness campaigns and conducting quality assurance audits.
  16. Participating in Birmingham Children’s Trust’s appraisal scheme and professional development.
  17. Developing best practice materials and workshops on relevant issues.
  18. Producing reports and recommendations based on reliable data.
  19. Supporting future domestic abuse projects and community engagement activities.
  20. Supporting or leading regional domestic abuse initiatives.
  21. Supporting the Head of Domestic Abuse and Interpersonal Violence with ad hoc duties.
  22. Enhancing team development and safeguarding expertise.
  23. Attending operational safeguarding meetings and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  24. Ensuring compliance with policies to promote children’s welfare and attendance.
  25. Contributing to practice development, staff training, and performance review.
  26. Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the service.
  27. Managing customer care and case management within teams.
  28. Participating in quality assurance and using assessment tools to inform practice.
  29. Handling complex information to support young people's development.
  30. Utilizing IT for recording and service monitoring.
