Job Description
Job Purpose
The multi-media specialist in this position deploys into sudden/high-profile emergencies and breaking news contexts to deliver video, image, and text content to enhance WV’s global profile. The role is primarily based in or with access to the Middle East / Europe / Africa regions. It involves multi-media content collection, serving as a global spokesperson, engaging media and VIPs, and working in high-stress, potentially hazardous environments, including conflict zones. The role requires up to 50% travel and includes responsibilities such as developing media relationships, pitching stories, building communication capacity, and supporting emergencies remotely. This is a high-visibility role with significant positioning, risk management, leadership, and field engagement responsibilities.
Major Responsibilities
- Multi-media content collection, editing, and production: Capture and produce high-quality photo and video content for marketing, online, media, and social media audiences, supporting global campaigns. Focus on raw and semi-finished content during deployment and finished content when not deployed. Support specific needs of SOs where appropriate.
- Content should highlight field, child, and staff voices; provide context and background; report on WV responses; and showcase partnerships and eyewitness accounts.
- Produce detailed captions, articles, transcriptions, and translations as needed. Post-production includes graphic/text additions, color correction, and adapting content for various platforms.
- Coordinate with NO communicators to plan and execute content gathering trips, identify compelling stories, and partner with freelancers or production houses as necessary.
- Work remotely to source and capture content, conduct remote interviews, and produce packages for PE and marketing audiences when not deployed.
- Ensure content delivery aligns with child protection, consent, and security protocols.
- Record audio interviews and edit for use.
- Systems: Transfer content to World Vision’s internal StoryHub library via satellite, mobile, or internet.
Media Engagement
- Serve as a global spokesperson, providing eyewitness accounts and engaging with high-profile media during and after deployment.
- Host international media trips to showcase needs and WV’s impact.
- Proactively handle reputational risks.
- Pitch to media and establish as a trusted content source and expert voice.
- Write press releases, statements, quotes, and opinion pieces.
- Direct field press conferences and virtual field experiences as needed.
- Use message guidance for media interviews and provide rapid training to spokespeople.
Social Media Support During Deployment
- Act as a mobile journalist, shooting video, collecting social content, and producing short social media pieces.
- Set up live streams on Facebook or other platforms.
- Support WV’s social media efforts, sharing videos, photos, captions, and engaging audiences.
- Coach and partner with response leaders and local voices to produce impactful content.
Equipment and Preparedness
- Manage equipment and systems to ensure readiness for deployment, including computers, software, mobile devices, satellite communication tools, and gear.
- Ensure travel documents, visas, and vaccines are up to date for rapid deployment.
Other Responsibilities
- Support media visits with WV VIPs and influencers, including VIP preparation for field media engagement.
Knowledge/Qualifications
- Strong journalistic, photo, video, storytelling, and social media skills.
- Technical knowledge of satellite communications, editing, and relevant software.
- Experience managing social media engagement and content creation.
- At least five years of experience in international humanitarian contexts.
- Media relations, public speaking, and spokesperson experience.
- Ability to work in insecure and stressful environments.
- Strategic planning, project management, and deadline management skills.
- Field communications experience in emergencies.
- Understanding of humanitarian principles and laws.
- Teamwork and adherence to child protection and conduct policies.
- Excellent English skills; second language (Spanish, French, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, or German) preferred.
Education and Certifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in journalism, public relations, or relevant fields.
- Second language proficiency is an advantage.
- Hostile Environment Awareness Training certification (to be arranged if necessary).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with social media influencers and international development.
Travel & Work Environment
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time, including in hostile environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel in harsh conditions and carry media equipment.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish or French.
