Overview

Specialist Rotational Physiotherapist

Department: Inpatient Therapies

Band 6 £38,682 - £46,580 per annum

Full-time 37.5 hours per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

Role and Rotations

Our Therapy Department is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic physiotherapists to join a cohort of rotational Band 6s on a permanent basis. The rotations are 8 months in length and cover the following areas:

  • Respiratory - Respiratory medicine including NIV, General Surgery including ERP programme & ICU
  • MSK Outpatients including hydrotherapy
  • Inpatient Orthopaedics - Trauma and Elective
  • Acute Stroke Unit
  • Acute assessment & Frailty team
  • MSK outreach and domiciliary service

Working as part of a dedicated & skilled Therapy Services team, you will provide a holistic therapy approach to patients in both in-patient & out-patient settings. There is a strong expectation to collaborate with all MDT members to ensure the complex needs of patients are at the centre of care.

Responsibilities
  • To provide advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a Senior Physiotherapist is available if required; clinical work is not regularly evaluated.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice. Make recommendations to Therapy Lead or Therapy Service Lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Current HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist.
  • Car driver is essential for MSK outreach and on-call services.
  • Experience as a Band 6 or 5 Physiotherapist is essential; demonstrable ability to work on own initiative and contribute to service development is desirable.
  • Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including management of patients in your care.
  • Maintain ongoing CPD and incorporate new trends into practice.
  • Responsible for supervision and coordination of band 5 staff, students and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Therapist for each clinical area as required.
