Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Rotational Band 6 Midwife for Whiston. This 12-month fixed-term maternity cover offers full and part-time posts across Maternity, including Triage and Community rotations. The post requires an Enhanced DBS with barred lists for Adults & Children.

You will join a dedicated team across Maternity Pathways, delivering safe intrapartum care in home, delivery suite or our Maternity Led Unit. Closing date: 11 November 2026.

Competenze

• Registered Midwife with current NMC registration

12 Month Fixed Term Maternity Cover

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Midwife to join our outstanding team of supportive and dedicated Midwifery and Medical staff, across all areas of Maternity, including Maternity Triage and the Community, helping to further the outstanding 5 star patient care provided by all.

We are expanding unit an increase of expectant mothers choosing to have their care from our Maternity Services. The Maternity Unit is furnished with state of the art, modern facilities for mothers and their babies.

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

To achieve women's expectations we offer a friendly, supportive and safe service for women, their partners, babies and their families. We believe in promoting normality in pregnancy and Intrapartum care. We will support our women in their choice of Birth place we currently offer three choices home, Delivery Suite or our Midwifery Led Unit.

The Maternity Team consists of a dedicated group of Midwives, Obstetrician's, Paediatricians, Anaesthetists, Health Care Assistants, a House Keeper and Admin Staff.

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Registered Midwife, with current NMC registration
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, or willing to work towards
• Recognised Teaching/Mentorship Qualification

Knowledge and Experience

• Knowledge of current Midwifery issues
• Knowledge of current Government NHS Agenda relevant to Maternity Services
• Knowledge and understanding of the assessment process for Students, and of creating a positive learning environment
• Knowledge and awareness of professional responsibilities
• Substantial post registration experience across all Maternity Pathways

Skills

• Excellent clinical skills

Other

• Evidence of fulfilling PREP
• Car owner/access to a car for community rotation with insurance for business use
