A Band 6 midwife is responsible for their own practice and therefore the post holder will be expected to maintain a high standard of professional expertise and to ensure that the highest quality ofmidwifery care is given during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. This care will be evidenced based and holistic in meeting the needs of women/people in a variety of practice settings.Provide professional leadership and mentoring to less experienced midwives and support to colleagues in a multidisciplinary team.Provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to a defined group of women/people, babies and their families in the community and hospital setting.In the absence of a Band 7 team leader, lead the team and manage the workload either in the community or unit.Co-operate and liaise with all members of staff, the Primary health care team, the medical and midwifery staff in the unit to endeavour to foster team spirit and ensure continuity of care.Evaluates and plans programmes of care for women, babies and their families within the community and hospital settingPlans own workload on a day-to-day basis and delegates appropriatelyActs as a mentor and participate in preceptorship programmesSkilled in communicating with a range of people on a daily basis some of who may have communication barriers.As part of the role you will be expected to participate in a rotational programme in all core and community areas
