Job summary

As the successful post holder, you will be expected to work towards Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare and the Care Certificate.

Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant uses general skill to enhance the service offered to woman and their families across a range of aspects of maternity service delivery under the close supervision of a registrant, ordinarily a midwife or Band 4 Maternity Support Worker practitioner.

Level 2 Maternity Care Assistants work alongside the registered practitioners and other members of the maternity care team, who provide direct delivery of care to woman and their families accessing hospital based services. Band 2 Maternity Care Assistants may undertake basic care tasks, as part of routine care for women and their babies and for which they have been appropriately trained. Where they do so, they will follow planned care programmes whilst being closely supervised by a registered or Level 4 practitioner

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Registered Midwife, you work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to provide the highest standards of patient care within maternity services.

The Maternity Care Assistant may be required to assist in any clinical area within the Maternity Department in response to Service demand.

In addition to this, you will be required to support the maternity services in the implementation and delivery of continuity of carer pathways in line with the Better Birth reports recommendations.
