Overview

The Dietetic & Speech Therapy Service is seeking 2 confident and motivated Band 5 Dietitians to join a friendly team at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is full time (37.5 hours per week) and includes a clinical caseload on adult wards (general medicine and surgery) and an outpatient caseload with weekly diabetic and general clinics. There are opportunities to develop skills in areas such as ICU, gastroenterology, surgery and neurorehab. The post holder will contribute to staff and patient education programmes and participate in clinical audits, department-wide projects and service improvements. The department supports continuing professional development with an effective appraisal system and a borough-wide Dietetic network offering peer support and guidance for ongoing personal development. The post holder will be supported by a Senior Dietitian with regular clinical supervision.

Job Purpose

1. To contribute to the delivery of Nutrition and Dietetic Services to the Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust (including cover to the Mount Vernon Site and clinic).
2. To assess and treat a defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records.

The Hillingdon Hospital is a busy district general hospital in North West London with a diverse patient population. It is close to Heathrow Airport and Brunel University and is within a 10 minute commute by public transport to Uxbridge Town Centre, which has excellent transport links to central London. The Trust provides on-site accommodation and a crèche.

Responsibilities

• Clinical: undertake nutritional assessment and calculate nutritional requirements of referred in-patients at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust, considering medical, social and cultural factors.
• Provide nutrition and dietary advice that is evidence-based and suitable for the patient’s medical, social and cultural factors.
• Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve dietary targets.
• Monitor and review nutritional care plans against outcome measures and adjust care plans to facilitate achievement of goals.

Department and Team

There is a well-established borough-wide Dietetic network offering peer support, and the team includes 12 Dietitians, 8 Speech and Language Therapists, 3 administrators, a Dietetic and Speech Therapy Assistant, a Nutrition nurse and a Service Manager.
