Roofer – Local Council
We are recruiting for an experienced and reliable Roofer to join the skilled Maintenance Response Team at BCP Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in your local area by carrying out essential roof repairs and maintenance work across our housing and public buildings portfolio.
Areas covered are Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.
Hours: 39 hrs per week - 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 3:30pm on Friday.
DBS check and Driving Licence are essential.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Carrying out reactive and planned roofing maintenance on domestic and commercial council properties.
- Diagnosing and repairing roof issues, including:
- Pitched roof repairs (tiles, slates, battens, felt)
- Flat roof repairs (bitumen, felt, GRP, liquid systems)
- Flashings, guttering, downpipes, and fascia/soffit work
- Minor chimney and leadwork repairs
- Working safely at height using ladders, scaffolding, and access platforms.
- Attending emergency call-outs and weather-related damage as part of the rapid response team.
- Completing accurate records of work via handheld job management systems (PDA/tablet).
- Delivering excellent customer service and representing the council professionally on-site.
- Ensuring all health and safety procedures and risk assessments are followed, especially when working at height or in occupied properties.
- Participating in a standby/on-call rota to support out-of-hours emergency repairs.
Person Specification
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Roofing or relevant construction trade.
- Experience in roof repair and maintenance (pitched and flat).
- Full UK driving licence - council van may be provided.
- Knowledge of building safety and working at height regulations.
- Ability to use job tracking systems or willingness to learn.
- CSCS card.
- Multi-trade skills (e.g., basic carpentry or brickwork).
- Experience in local authority or housing association repairs and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of scaffold inspection and access safety.
