ROLLING STOCK FITTER

Excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Fitter from a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Position: Mechanical Fitter

Location: Crewe, within the Rolling Stock industry (Trains)

Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting for Mechanical Fitters to operate out of a Rolling Stock depot in Crewe, focusing on the Mechanical Overhaul of Rail Bogies. Responsibilities include:

1. Bogie overhaul, damage repair, and engineering
2. Wheel set overhaul, repair, and analysis
3. Bogie chassis, damage repair, and cleaning
4. Bogie and gearbox engineering/repair
5. Wheel exchange on wheel sets
6. Bearing, axle, and wheel mounting
7. Components and sub-assemblies overhaul, repair, and analysis
8. Re-engineering and production of spare parts
9. Performing all types of Mechanical repairs and replacements on Rolling Stock to ensure safety, reliability, and defect-free trains

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter
• Preferably time served and apprentice trained with relevant mechanical qualifications
• At least NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical discipline
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Extensive knowledge of Mechanical Engineering
• Ideally familiar with modern rolling stock systems and train depot operations

Compensation:

• £18.25 PAYE / £23.14 Umbrella per hour
• Overtime: First 5 hours at flat rate, then time & half
• Training offered for non-classically trained candidates at a lower rate (£14.67 PAYE / £18.25 Umbrella for the first 4 weeks)

Shifts:

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• Potential shift change to mornings and afternoons in upcoming months

The role is subject to passing a drugs and alcohol test.
