Job description

Role: Live-out Companion / Carer (light Household support)

Location: Bath, BA1, Somerset

Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm (with flexibility)

Salary: £40,000-£50,000+ (salary dependent upon experience)

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: October/November 2025

We are seeking akind, dedicated Live-out Companion/ Carer to support a female client in Bath who has lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years.

Whilst wheelchair-bound, she remains partly independent and values companionship, encouragement, and a calm, reassuring presence in her home. The Client is also living with vascular dementia, and the role will focus exclusively on her wellbeing, happiness, and daily quality of life, with additional support to the household (if/when time allows).

The household is well‑supported, with her husband, a long‑standing family friend, and a part‑time cleaner providing a stable environment. The Companion will play a vital role in offering personal companionship, confidence and practical support, whilst also helping to foster her enjoyment of life at home and in the community.

The Client Couple do take extended trips to Europe throughout the year, during which the companion would be expected to accompany them (with self‑contained ensuite accommodation and services covered), so this is a role that would suit someone also happy to travel. Any personal annual leave requests will be fully approved by the Clients, if notice is provided.

This role would suit either a top Carer or ex‑household professional who would like to form a long‑standing professional relationship with a warm, caring and lovely household.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide companionship, emotional support, and encouragement, particularly in the absence of her husband.
  • Promote wellbeing through regular exercise, encouraging gentle daily routines to maintain strength.
  • Support with nutrition & hydration and ensuring balanced meals and healthy choices.
  • Encouragement with personal hygiene routines, including weekly showers and hair washing.
  • Liaise with the MS Nurse, ensuring regular visits and follow‑ups.
  • Monitor and assist with appointments and medication management.
  • Organise and accompany social outings, hair/nail appointments, and support with seasonal clothing.
  • Travel with the family on up to two extended international trips per year, with expenses and all accommodation provided.
  • Provide additional support to the household including light housekeeping and cooking.
  • Ideally be a driver, facilitating appointments and outings.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a Carer within a private household, OR with a household service background.
  • Be local to BA1, and within commuting distance.
  • Ideally with a full UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience work with vascular dementia and / or Multiple Sclerosis patients beneficial.
  • Valid (or willingness to obtain) DBS check.
  • Excellent, contactable references.
