Job summary

ClearSpace seeks a Robotics Engineer to join the UK team and help develop robotic systems for future commercial space missions. You will work on core robotic technologies for on-orbit services such as capture, docking, inspection, refueling, repair and assembly.

The role involves contributing to robotics simulations, validating prototypes, and defining modular, scalable products while interfacing with customers and subcontractors. Prior space-industry experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Degree in aerospace/engineering/mechatronics/physics/robotics or embedded electronics
  • 3+ years robotics/mechatronics/embedded engineering experience
  • Knowledge of robotics foundation theory and motor control
  • Experience with embedded software and programming (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++)

Responsibilities

  • Develop core robotic technologies for in-orbit services including capture, docking, inspection, refueling, repair, life-extension and assembly
  • Support development of robotics simulation and testing capabilities and facilities
  • Define ClearSpace's robotics products with modularity and scalability
  • Deliver robotic solutions to programs meeting schedule, cost and performance requirements
  • Help define and execute validation, verification and test plans
  • Interface with customers, partners, and subcontractors
  • Support proposal writing for future business

Role Purpose/Summary

The successful candidate will be a key member of the UK Team and will help develop robotic systems for ClearSpace's future commercial space missions.

Role Responsibilities
  • Developing core robotic technologies to address a wide variety of in-orbit services, including (but not limited to) cooperative and non-cooperative capture, docking, inspection, refueling, repair, life-extension, and assembly.
  • Supporting the development of world-class robotics simulation and testing capabilities and facilities.
  • Defining ClearSpace's robotics products, with emphases on modularity and scalability.
  • Delivering robotic solutions to key programs, to schedule, cost and performance requirements.
  • Helping define and execute validation, verification and test plans.
  • Interfacing with customers, partners, and subcontractors.
  • Support proposal writing for future business.
  • Robotics application programming.
Must have
  • BSc/MSc) Degree in Aerospace, Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Robotics or Embedded Electronics similar.
    3+ years experience of robotics, mechatronics or embedded electrical engineering.
  • Understanding of robotics foundation theory.
  • Understanding of motor control, and experience of embedded software and programming
  • Programming in Matlab/Simulink, Python, C/C++ (at least one).
Nice to have
  • Prior experience in the space industry
  • Comfortable interacting with customers, both institutional (ESA, EC, LSA) and commercial.
  • Familiarity with the full space program lifecycle, from business development, proposal generation and contract negotiations, all the way through design, development, assembly, test and successful delivery.
