Job summary

A prestigious automotive brand in the UK is seeking a Robot Technician for a permanent role. You will operate and maintain robotic paint systems, ensuring quality and efficiency throughout the paint process. The ideal candidate has a strong problem-solving ability and is proficient in Microsoft Office, with a background in mechanical or automotive engineering preferred. Training may be provided for the right candidate. Flexibility for shift work may be required, with some travel involved.

Job description

Overview

This amazing permanent Robot Technician role is a unique opportunity to join a state-of-the-art facility within one of the world's most prestigious brands. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of robotic paint systems, contribute to quality improvements, and support new colour and process development. While a background in paint application and robots is desirable, the company will also consider training people with the right attitude and essential skills listed below.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor vehicles during the paint process, ensuring correct programs and colour options are selected.
  • Operate and maintain 7-axis Durr rotary bell robots.
  • Complete TPM and PM activities in line with maintenance schedules.
  • Perform autonomous maintenance tasks, including robot cleaning, rotary bell changes, and robot cover changes.
  • Conduct and record daily system parameter checks (e.g., temperature, RH, paint ratios, downdrafts, change logs).
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering with new colour developments and process changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of paint programs to optimise quality and paint usage.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and breakdown support within the robot cell.
  • Troubleshoot and support resolution of robotic paint defects.
  • Support production trials and new build phases (EP, VP, Pilot, SOP).
  • Back up robot programs and brush files.
  • Escalate quality issues to Supervisors or Manufacturing Engineering.

Desirable Skills & Experience
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Experience in lean problem solving and robotic paint programming.
  • Knowledge of 2K and electrostatic paint application.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Strong understanding of niche vehicle and OEM automotive industries.
  • Expertise in electrostatic bell paint application and online/offline robot programming.
Other Requirements
  • Flexibility to support production requirements, including potential shift work.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
