Job description

Robot Operations Engineer - Engineered Arts

London, UK

About Engineered Arts

Engineered Arts is the leading manufacturer of full-size humanoid robots used for entertainment, education and communication. With 20 years of hardware and software development, our robots have been sold in over 30 countries worldwide with customers such as NASA, PwC, Meta and many more.

Our Ameca robot is well known as 'the face of AI' and a social media viral success, taking advantage of the generative AI craze. Along with our ultra‑realistic Mesmer range of animated figures, our robots continue to surprise and excite visitors at museums, theme parks, visitor attractions and trade shows, as well as aid leading universities with AI and robotics research. Our robots are poised to break into the future mega‑expansion service robot segment, with applications such as front of house, receptions, check‑in desks, information points and PoS.

We are a team of dedicated engineers and creatives striving to develop the very best experiences for our customers. Our internal motto is 'Be Wow' — everything we do is fun, entertaining or surprising to encounter.

About You

You're a hands‑on technical generalist who gets just as excited diagnosing a fault deep inside a robot chassis as you do ensuring a customer delivers a flawless demo at a trade show in Dubai. You've worked in customer‑facing technical roles — field service, technical support, AV, or something close — and you know that diagnosing the root cause of an issue matters far more than patching the symptom. You communicate clearly under pressure, take ownership instinctively, and genuinely take pride in making complex technology look effortless in front of an audience.

This isn't a desk job. You'll be on planes, inside robot chassis, on‑site at customer premises, and standing in a trade show booth — sometimes all in the same week. You're energised by variety, comfortable with ambiguity, and the kind of person who finds a way through technical problems without needing someone to hand you a script.

Our robots are a wow experience. You'll be the person who makes sure that wow happens every single time.

What You'll Do and How You'll Have an Impact
  • Liaise with customers on venue requirements — power, network connectivity, and physical setup — well before robots arrive on site
  • Execute pre‑shipment checks and pack robots safely for transit; perform return checks and maintenance on arrival back to base
  • Travel to customer premises or rental venues to set up, operate, and de‑install robots
  • Train customer stakeholders on safe robot usage and ongoing maintenance, either at their site or at an EA office
  • Be on‑site for rental engagements to ensure robots look and perform at their best throughout, then manage safe pack‑down for return shipping
Fleet & Helpdesk Operations
  • Serve as the first point of contact on EA's digital helpdesk, owning tickets from intake through to resolution
  • Remotely connect to customer robots to diagnose issues and coordinate effective fixes with the relevant internal teams
  • Organise spare parts with the production team and ensure customers have clear, actionable instructions for self‑serve repairs
  • Travel on‑site for larger issues that require a hands‑on presence to resolve
Trade Shows & Events
  • Represent Engineered Arts at trade shows and exhibitions in high‑profile global destinations
  • Prepare booth services before robot despatch, set up the exhibit, and manage safe pack‑down for the return journey
  • Engage with show visitors as an EA ambassador — you know the robots inside out and can talk to anyone about what makes them extraordinary
  • Own and maintain EA's in‑house fleet of robots, keeping every unit in peak condition for developer use, customer visits, and event deployments
  • Manage hardware upgrades according to Design Change Notes and coordinate with the mechanical, assembly, software, and embedded teams as needed
  • Identify, document, and escape persistent issues to the QA team so root causes get a permanent fix, not just a workaround
What This Role Is Not
  • A pure software or coding position — Python and networking experience are a bonus, but this is fundamentally a hands‑on field and support role
  • A role for someone who wants to stay in one place — significant domestic and international travel is a core part of the job, not an occasional add‑on
  • A team leadership position — you'll work closely with the Robot Operations Manager and collaborate across every internal team, but this is an individual contributor role focused on execution and craft
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in a customer‑facing technical role — field service, technical support, systems integration, AV, or similar
  • Working knowledge of electronics fundamentals: confident using a multimeter and oscilloscope to diagnose issues independently
  • Hands‑on mechanical assembly experience, whether professional or in a serious hobby context
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to travel to most global destinations without requiring visa sponsorship — particularly within Europe, the USA, and the UAE
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to absorb technical information quickly from a wide range of sources and relay it clearly to customers and colleagues alike
Nice to Have
  • Experience exhibiting or working operationally at trade shows or live events
  • Background supporting complex mechanical systems, machine tools, or industrial equipment
  • Computer networking knowledge and hands‑on troubleshooting experience
  • Genuine interest in robotics or humanoid robots specifically
  • Fluency in additional languages beyond English
