Job summary

Midlothian Council is seeking a Roadworker 4 x2 at Fushiebridge Depot to join the Place Directorate. The role is permanent, 36 hours per week, Mon-Thu 07:30-15:45 and Fri 07:30-12:30.

Salary starts at the 1st pay point with a minimum annual gross of £30,619.22. Essential qualifications include an SVQ2 in Road Building and HGV/LGV licence; overtime and on-call opportunities are available with a generous employer pension contribution.

Qualifications

• SVQ level 2 in Road Building or equivalent.
• HGV/LGV driving licence (essential).
• Experience in road maintenance tasks and safe operation of plant.

Responsibilities

• Carry out road resurfacing, drainage, line painting or winter maintenance tasks.
• Interpret technical plans and site drawings and measure for materials and equipment.
• Work with a modern fleet and plant, including overtime/on-call when required.

Job description

Road services are accepting applications for suitably experienced road operatives to help us deliver various exciting project utilising a modern fleet of vehicles and plant.

Ideal candidates will have experience in surfacing, drainage, plant operation, line painting or winter maintenance.

Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to partake in overtime and on call operations, which is coupled with a generous pension employer contribution.

Jobholders must also hold the SVQ level 2 in Road Building or equivalent experience and be willing to obtain a NRSWA operators' qualification., along with at least 1 year's post qualification. Experience in the road maintenance industry to carry out a variety of tasks and be conversant in the safe operation of a number of items of plant associated to the tasks.

A HGV / LGC drivers license is an essential requirement for this position.

Experience in carrying out winter maintenance duties is desirable for this position.

The jobholder will be required to understand processes and interpret technical plans and site drawings. They will also be required to take site measures to allow the accurate ordering of materials and equipment.
