Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to diagnose faults, perform roadside repairs and provide fast, confident service to members across the UK.

You will work on a range of vehicles with diagnostic tools, developing skills through its IMI-accredited development pathway and a focus on customer service. Great holidays and pension benefits accompany a strong base salary.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Perform expert mechanical roadside repair, diagnostics and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Diagnose faults and provide quick, confident solutions to get members moving again.
• Use the latest diagnostic technology and work independently to identify faults and fix issues.

• Starting and finishing on your driveway, with demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week and optional overtime available.

What you’ll need...

• Either: NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• and A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

About the role

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll work independently to diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely. Every day brings different challenges, new environments and the opportunity to make an immediate impact when people need the RAC most.

You’ll combine technical expertise with great customer service, using the latest diagnostic technology to identify faults and get members back on the road quickly and safely.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to develop your skills and equipped with everything you need to succeed.
