Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to diagnose faults, perform mechanical roadside repairs, and provide emergency breakdown support across the UK. You will work independently, delivering quick, confident solutions and reassuring service to members when they need us most.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• OR 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• As a Roadside Technician you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• You’ll diagnose faults independently, provide quick and confident solutions, and reassuring assistance when our members need us most.
• You’ll combine technical expertise with customer service to get members back on the road quickly and safely.

Join the RAC as a Roadside Technician and solve problems that keep people moving. As a Roadside Technician, you’ll benefit from:

£36,400 base salary with a realistic OTE of £61,000, with top performers earning significantly more through bonus and enhanced overtime rates.

Starting and finishing on your driveway, with demand‑led shifts averaging 40 hours per week and optional overtime available.

A structured development programme with hands‑on learning, ongoing support and the opportunity to achieve accreditation through the motor industry’s professional body, the IMI.

Opportunities in South East: Brighton, Canterbury, Guildford, Horsham, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, Slough.

What you’ll need

About the role

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault‑finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll work independently to diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely. Every day brings different challenges, new environments and the opportunity to make an immediate impact when people need the RAC most.

You’ll combine technical expertise with great customer service, using the latest diagnostic technology to identify faults and get members back on the road quickly and safely.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to develop your skills and equipped with everything you need to succeed.
