Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to cover the Oldham/Bury cluster and surrounding areas. You will perform mechanical roadside repairs and diagnostics, provide emergency breakdown support, and help members get back on the road.

The role requires Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience, plus a full UK driving licence. You will start and finish from home with a RAC van and full tools provided.

• or 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• Start and finish your day at home, with local call-outs and a RAC van, fuel card, uniform and tools provided.

Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equivalent) and at least 2 years' experience, you'll receive:

• A market-competitive base salary of £36,400 and a realistic OTE of £60,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.
• Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you'll work

You’ll be part of the Oldham/Bury cluster, covering areas like Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, Middleton, Chadderton, Failsworth, Whitefield, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Heywood, Ramsbottom.

We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

Either

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience
• or
• 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You will start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside – combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one: your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
