Job summary

The RAC is recruiting a Roadside Technician to keep the UK moving. With a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equivalent) and at least 2 years’ experience, you’ll diagnose faults, perform roadside repairs, and provide emergency breakdown support across the UK.

You’ll start and end each day at home, working in the Leeds cluster with 40-hour, demand-led shifts and optional overtime. Base pay is £36,400 with realistic OTE around £60,000.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• Or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Start and end your day at home, delivering quick, confident solutions for RAC members.
• Use RAC van, fuel card, and diagnostic kit provided to complete each call.

A market-competitive base salary of £36,400 and a realistic OTE of £60,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.

Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Working Location

Where you’ll work. You’ll be part of the Leeds cluster, covering areas like Leeds, Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley, Pudsey, Otley, Garforth. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need

Either :

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
