RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to service members across the Portsmouth cluster and surrounding areas. You’ll start and end each day at home, and operate a RAC van with full tools and diagnostic kit to perform roadside repairs and diagnostics.

Ideal candidates hold NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician, plus a full UK driving licence (≤6 points).

Join the RAC as a Roadside Technician

Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equilavent) and at least 2 years' experience, you’ll receive:

• A market-competitive base salary of £36,400 and a realistic OTE of £60,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.
• Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Portsmouth cluster, covering areas like Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Chichester, Emsworth.

We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.
