Job summary

RAC is looking for a Roadside Technician to join our Patrol division in the UK. You will perform diagnostic and mechanical roadside repairs and provide emergency breakdown assistance to members across your local area.

You will start and finish each day at home and operate from a RAC van with full uniform, tools and fuel card provided. This role offers a strong base salary with substantial potential via bonuses and overtime.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic is also acceptable.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance to RAC members on the roadside.
• Start and finish days at the member's location or home base, with a RAC van and equipment provided.

Join the RAC as a Roadside Technician

Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equilavent) and at least 2 years' experience, you’ll receive:

• A market-competitive base salary of £41,600 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable) and a realistic OTE of £65,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.
• Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you’ll work:

You’ll be part of the Bromley cluster, covering areas like Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Sidcup, Eltham, Woolwich, Greenwich, Lewisham, Peckham, Camberwell. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
  or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
