Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to service members across the Bromley area. You’ll diagnose faults, perform roadside repairs, and assist with emergency breakdowns, starting and finishing from home with local travel to callouts.

The role requires Level 2 Light Vehicle maintenance or 2+ years' experience, or 5+ years' experience with a full UK driving licence. You’ll receive a RAC van, fuel card, uniform and tools to support your day-to-day duties.

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance with 2+ years' experience
• 2+ years' experience as Roadside Technician/Mechanic or 5+ years' experience as Vehicle Technician/Mechanic alternative path
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

• Start and finish days at home, tackling challenges head-on while helping members get back on the road

Join the RAC as a Roadside Technician

Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equilavent) and at least 2 years' experience , you’ll receive:

A market-competitive base salary of £41,600 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable) and a realistic OTE of £65,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.

Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you’ll work:

You’ll be part of the Bromley cluster, covering areas like Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Sidcup, Eltham, Woolwich, Greenwich, Lewisham, Peckham, Camberwell. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

Either :

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equilavent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
