Job description

Job Summary

East Dunbartonshire Council are looking for Roads Operatives to join their Roads Network team.

Reporting to the Squad Leader, the post holder is responsible for undertaking practical routine road maintenance repairs and emergency works, laying bituminous and non-bituminous, resting ironwork and street apparatus to line and level.

The operative will take instruction from the squad leader and other senior members of the team and comply with the health and safety policies. The operative would be expected to drive council vehicles (if licenced) and operate a range of plant and tools.

Working to the service level agreement as specified by the Council whilst ensuring a high standard of customer service is delivered. You will be required to participate in the Road Network Team Winter / Summer Maintenance activities.

Applicants should be self-motivated and able to work flexibly within a team environment as well as reliable and conscientious.

You should have experience in a Roads Maintenance / Civil Engineering environment with experience in a wide range of road activities and plant required. A driver's license is essential and a Street works Qualification or HGV license would be desirable but not essential. Participation in winter stand is required and preference will be given to candidates willing to paricipate.

PVG/ Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate's first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee's wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR &OD Manager.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee's final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
