Job Description:

Fantastic opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s NW team as a Road Network Inspector or an Asset Inspector.

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans approximately 1,422 km of trunk roads through scenic parts of Scotland, including 1,501 bridges and structures such as the Kessock Bridge and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The area covered ranges from Thurso and Wick in the Highlands to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

Role includes:

  • Conducting weekly daytime Safety Inspections and Patrols to identify hazards and perform minor repairs when safe to do so.
  • Performing bi-weekly or monthly night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets and semi-annual inspections of reflective assets.
  • Carrying out visual condition inspections to assess asset health and inform maintenance programs.
  • Validating and updating asset inventory in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Interaction with the public may be involved; candidates will undergo a basic disclosure check via Disclosure Scotland.
  • Previous road maintenance experience is preferred but not essential; training and mentoring will be provided.
  • Good computer skills are required as inspections utilize data capture devices linked to Transport Scotland’s system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is advantageous.
  • A full, approved driving license is mandatory.
