Job Description:

Fantastic opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s NW team as a Road Network Inspector or an Asset Inspector.

The North West Trunk Road Unit covers approximately 1,422 km of trunk roads and includes 1,501 bridges and structures, such as the Kessock Bridge and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The area spans from Thurso and Wick in the north to Campbeltown in the south, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

Role includes:
  1. Conducting weekly daytime Safety Inspections and Safety Patrols to identify hazards and perform minor repairs where safe.
  2. Performing bi-weekly/night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets and semi-annual inspections of reflective assets.
  3. Carrying out visual condition inspections to identify defects and support maintenance planning.
  4. Validating and updating asset inventory data in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Basic disclosure clearance through Disclosure Scotland due to public interaction.
  • Previous road maintenance experience is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
  • Good computer skills are necessary, especially with data capture devices and Microsoft Office.
  • A full valid driving licence is essential.
