Job summary

Tarmac Ruthin Contracting in Ruthin, North Wales, is seeking a Multi Skilled Road Surfacing Operative to join our team. You will operate road surfacing plant and equipment, lay coated materials to BS tolerances, and contribute to site safety across North Wales and the North West of England.

You should have experience in asphalt laying, plant tickets, and a full UK driving licence, with the ability to work independently or in a gang. We value safety, quality and flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in asphalt laying and road surfacing.
• Proven ability to operate surfacing plant, with relevant plant tickets.
• Experience on larger infrastructure or motorway projects.
• CSCS card (preferred).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a gang.
• Good communication skills and a proactive, hands on attitude.
• Flexible approach to working hours and locations.
• Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machinery.
• Working with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environments.
• Laying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerances.
• Carrying out day‑to‑day plant checks and basic maintenance.
• Playing an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliance.
• Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site.
