Job summary

Tarmac is seeking a Multi Skilled Road Surfacing Operative in Liverpool to join our team based out of Tarmac Liverpool Contracting. You will cover Merseyside and the North West, operating road surfacing plant and delivering high quality surfacing on major highways projects.

Key duties include operating pavers and rollers, applying hot coated materials to BS tolerances, and performing routine plant checks. A strong commitment to health and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in asphalt laying and road surfacing.
• Full UK driving licence.
• CSCS card (preferred).
• Ability to work independently and in a gang.

Responsibilities

• Operate road surfacing plant and equipment (pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers).
• Work with hot coated materials in live construction environments.
• Lay coated materials to specifications and BS tolerances.
• Carry out day-to-day plant checks and basic maintenance.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards on site.
• Support zero-harm and site safety compliance.
• Promote safe working practices and challenge unsafe behaviours.

Road Surfacing Operative – Agecroft

Location: Liverpool

Experienced in road surfacing? Confident operating surfacing plant? Looking for steady work across major highways projects in Merseyside and the North West? If so, this could be the role for you.

We’re looking for a Multi Skilled Road Surfacing Operative to join our friendly team based out of Tarmac Liverpool Contracting, covering Merseyside and the North West of England. As well as Liverpool, we have road surfacing gangs based in Salford, Ruthin, Wigan and Greater Manchester. This is a hands on, safety critical role delivering high quality surfacing on some of the region’s most important infrastructure.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machinery
• Working with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environments
• Laying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerances
• Carrying out day‑to‑day plant checks and basic maintenance
• Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
• Playing an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliance
• Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in asphalt laying and road surfacing
• Proven ability to operate surfacing plant, with relevant plant tickets
• Experience working on larger infrastructure or motorway projects
• CSCS card (preferred)
• Full UK driving licence
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a gang
• Good communication skills and a proactive, hands on attitude
• Flexible approach to working hours and locations
• Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards

Location: this role is easily accessible from Liverpool, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Southport, Kirkby, Huyton, Prescot, St Helens, Widnes, Runcorn, Warrington, Birkenhead, Ellesmere Port, Chester, Wirral and the surrounding areas.
