Tarmac Cross Green in Leeds is seeking a hands-on Road Surfacing Operative (L2) to join our multi-skilled surfacing team. You’ll operate road surfacing plant, lay coated materials, and perform routine plant checks on major highways projects in Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

We value practical asphalt experience, the ability to work independently or in a gang, and a strong safety mindset. The role is based at Cross Green, Leeds, with flexible hours and locations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in asphalt laying and road surfacing.
• Proven ability to operate surfacing plant with relevant tickets.
• Experience on larger infrastructure or motorway projects.
• CSCS card preferred.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Good communication and proactive, hands-on attitude.
• Flexible hours and locations.

Responsibilities

• Operate road surfacing plant and equipment (pavers, rollers, tractors, etc.).
• Work with hot coated materials in live highway environments.
• Lay coated materials to specifications and BS tolerances.
• Carry out day-to-day plant checks and basic maintenance.
• Maintain housekeeping to high standards.
• Promote safe working practices and challenge unsafe behaviours.
• Support zero-harm culture and site compliance.

# Road Surfacing Operative (L2)### Job Introduction**Road Surfacing Operative – Cross Green****Location: Cross Green, Leeds, West Yorkshire** Experienced in road surfacing? Confident operating surfacing plant? Looking for steady work across major highways projects? If so, this could be the role for you.We're looking for a **Multi Skilled Road Surfacing Operative** to join our friendly team based out of **Tarmac Cross Green, Leeds**, covering Yorkshire and the surrounding region. This is a hands on, safety critical role delivering high quality surfacing on some of the area's most important infrastructure projects. **What you’ll be doing**Reporting to the **Gang Supervisor**, you’ll be a key part of a multi‐skilled surfacing team delivering works safely, efficiently and to specification. Your role will include: * Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machinery* Working with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environments* Laying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerances* Carrying out day‐to‐day plant checks and basic maintenance* Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards* Playing an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliance* Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site **What we’re looking for** You’ll already have practical experience within road surfacing laying coated materials ideally across highways environments such as motorways, ‘A’ roads and airfields.
